Is myopia management right for your child?

If any of these statements apply to your child, a myopia management treatment may be a good option for them.

Your child is active in sports, dance, or other high-energy activities
Your child is reluctant to wear glasses
Either or both parents need vision correction - wear glasses, contact lenses, or have had LASIK
Your child needed eyeglasses before the age of 8
Your child’s prescription has changed more than -0.50 D in the past year
Allergies or dry eyes limit their use of daytime contact lenses
There is a family history of eye disease including Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, or Retinal Detachment

Atropine Drops

This is a mild dilation drop that blurs the edges of the patient’s vision in order to reduce the growth of the eye (myopia).

The drops are prescribed at different strengths at the doctor’s recommendation.

This is a good option for patients who are not comfortable with wearing contact lenses.

As well, these drops can be in used in combination with contacts lenses if a stronger treatment is necessary.

Ortho - Keratology

Also referred to as “ortho-k” is the use of contact lenses that are specially designed to temporarily reshape the cornea to improve vision. This treatment is often compared to braces, but for the eyes.
